Surrey Horticultural Federation Autumn 2022 Newsletter

Welcome to the Surrey Horticultural Federation Autumn Newsletter 2022!

I hope this message finds you all surrounded by flowers and home-grown fruit and vegetables!  Our Surrey Horticultural Federation Newsletter is full of exciting dates, so get your diaries ready!

Surrey Horticultural Federation Inter-Club Quiz & A.G.M

Here is the first date for your diaries – our Surrey Horticultural Federation Inter-Club Quiz and A.G.M will be held on Sunday 6th November 2022 at 2.30pm at Normandy Village Hall, Manor Farm, Glaziers Lane, Normandy, Guildford, Surrey, GU3 2DT. (Normandy Village Hall is just off the main A 323 Guildford /Aldershot road at Normandy.  Turn into Glaziers Lane: the hall is 500 yards on left).

Please come to our fun and informal Club Quiz.  We hold a very quick A.G.M first (see Agenda below) and then start the Quiz.

Surrey Horticultural Federation – 46th A.G.M.

Sunday 6th November 2022 –  Normandy Village Hall at 2.30pm

 AGENDA

  1. APOLOGIES FOR ABSENCE.
  2. MINUTES OF THE LAST MEETING.
  3. MATTERS ARISING FROM THE MINUTES.
  4. CHAIRPERSON’S REPORT.
  5. TREASURER’S REPORT.
  6. ELECTION OF OFFICERS and COUNCIL MEMBERS.
  7. FUTURE EVENTS.
  8. ANY OTHER BUSINESS – Please contact me, (beth@pumpkinbeth.com) if there is anything you would like to raise.

Please let us know if your club would like to take part in our Inter-Club Quiz & A.G.M – everyone is very welcome and it’s a relaxed and informal afternoon – we’d be delighted to see you. As in previous years, three club members make up a team and sit together at individual team tables. (Tables will be sited 2m+ apart but you will be close to your team members.)

Our quiz is fun and relaxed; no one has to stand up or read out their answers and all answers are written down. Our Quizmaster, John Negus will read out the questions and he will give everyone a multiple choice of answers for participants to choose from. Teams sit together and each member has their own sheet of paper to record their answers. Teams can confer and can all give the same answers, or each can choose different answers if they don’t know the answer. Supporters and visitors from any club are welcome. There are cash prizes for teams and prizes for the best answers from the audience! It’s a fun afternoon – do join us.

This relaxed and fun event takes place on Sunday 6th November 2022 at 2.30pm (after the AGM) at Normandy Village Hall, Manor Farm, Glaziers Lane, Normandy, Guildford, Surrey, GU3 2DT.  We do need to know how many clubs can come – please confirm your club’s entry to me by emailing me at beth@pumpkinbeth.com A.S.A.P.  Thank you.

Publicising Your Events

I would be delighted to advertise all of the Surrey Horticultural Federation clubs and societies’ events on the Surrey Horticultural Federation’s website.  The Surrey Horticultural Federation’s website is exclusively for our members’ events.

Please email me (beth@pumpkinbeth.com) the details of your upcoming events. To publicise your event successfully, I need to know:

  • What kind of event it is?
  • Where your event will be held?
  • What time it starts?
  • Is your event free for members?
  • How much do non-members pay to attend?

Please note that we only publicise events for Societies, Clubs, Groups, & Associations that are members of the Surrey Horticultural Federation – so if you haven’t renewed your 2022 membership, please do so – here’s the form: https://surreyhorticulturalfederation.org/news/membership-renewal/

Feedback Sheets

Please may I ask that if your club or society has booked a speaker this year, please send your thoughts and feedback on the speaker to me – so I can share this insight confidentially with the representatives from the other Surrey Horticultural Federation committees.  Feedback sheets are collated in the strictest confidence, and only shared between the committee members of clubs and societies that are SHF members.  Sharing speaker feedback helps us all find great quality speakers.  To submit feedback on a speaker or lecturer, please use this Feedback Sheet, or simply email me your comments at beth@pumpkinbeth.com.  Thank you very much indeed.

Upcoming Events

The Surrey Horticultural Federation’s website has an events page that lists the events for all Surrey Horticultural Federation member clubs.  I update the website regularly; it is the best source to find talks and other events for clubs across Surrey.  Below is a list of events scheduled for the next few months (see our calendar in full here).

Please share this email with your members.

I wish you and all your members a very productive autumn, full of harvests and celebration!

Best wishes to you all
Beth
