**THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED**Thursley Horticultural Society will be welcoming Dr. David Royston to Thursley Village Hall at 8pm, on Wednesday 3rd June 2020.

Dr Royston studied for his primary medical degree and undertook his basic training in anaesthesia in Liverpool, England. He moved to London in 1980 to work under the guidance of Dr John Nunn at the Medical Research Centre.

In 1983 Dr Royston was appointed to the post of Senior Lecturer (honorary consultant) at the Royal Postgraduate Medical School and Hammersmith Hospital and subsequently moved to Harefield Hospital in 1990 as a consultant in cardiothoracic anaesthesia. Dr Royston was also an honorary Senior Lecturer at St George’s Hospital Medical School since 1997 and was Ralph Waters visiting professor in Madison,Wisconsin and visiting professor at McGill University Montreal.

Dr Royston has held a number of editorial responsibilities including joint editor of International Anesthesiology Clinics and associate editor of Seminars in Cardiothoracic and Vascular Anesthesia. He currently sits on the editorial board of the Journal of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Anesthesia. He has edited one book and has over 180 publications in major journals. Dr Royston has presented invited guest lectures at over 250 meetings in 40 countries.

Dr Royston retired from clinical practice in 2015 and now is a volunteer guide and steward at the Brooklands aviation and motor museum while also giving occasional presentations on medicinal plants to local horticultural societies.
